Date: March 18, 2014
Location: Knights of Columbus
Description: On Tuesday, March 18 2014, CABA held a free legal seminar at the Knights of Columbus in Sterling Heights with over 80 attendees. An overwhelming number of Chaldean immigrants and refugees immediately find themselves faced with issues regarding Immigration, Landlord Tenant, and Family Law and this seminar assisted those with issues.
Most of the attendees do not speak English, or barely enough to get through day to day activities. They do not possess the knowledge or background to properly handle the legal issues they may face. The purpose of this seminar was to provide information and a support group to members of the community facing these very issues. Not only to inform them, but to be there for them, and advise them on how they can get help and help others.
Attorneys spoke about their area of practice and the event concluded with Q&A. The attorneys sat with 5-6 individuals and discussed their specific questions/concerns re: Immigration, Family, and Landlord/Tenant law.
Overall the event was a success and CABA will be hosting more free legal seminars in the future. The priorities for these seminars are in the area of Immigration, Landlord Tenant and Family Law. If you are interested in volunteering for one, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special thanks to Asaad Kalasho and the Iraqi American Christian League for co-hosting the event as well as CABA attorneys: Jalal J. Dallo, Madana Hermiz, Brandon Kalasho, Dalia Rasha Kejbou and State Representative Klint Kesto and CABA Representative Salam F. Elia for facilitating and covering the event.
