The Height of Influencer Marketing

July 22, 2013 / BY / IN Blog

Have you recognized how important your audience is in promoting your brand?  As the social media topic that will never die, influencer marketing is very necessary. Influencer marketing is a form of marketing that has emerged from a variety of recent practices, which is focused on specific key individuals rather than the target market as a whole.

Influencers can be potential clients or third parties. They can be advocates, or someone who is not associated with your brand that will promote your products/ services to others. Who would you trust more? An advertisement or paid sponsor, or someone you know whose opinion you trust.

It brings many opportunities and really comes down to relationships.  As you may have already guessed, relationships and marketing go hand in hand.  It’s a constant battle between your influencer and your social media reach.

In a way, it’s like word-of-mouth marketing, with a bit more to it.  Influencer marketing markets to the influencer, not the customer.  Here are some tips on how to enhance influencer marketing for your company.

1.     Optimize the identification process.  Using networking sites like SocMetrics or Traackr, which optimize the identification process and improve workflow efficiency.  For example, the identification platform, SocMetrics allows users to identify topical influencers, view their social footprints, filter by region, view influencer reach, engagement metrics and more.

2.    Build a relationship.  Influencers are more likely to take action if there is an existing relationship.  Introduce yourself weeks in advance of the campaign.  It’s as easy as sending an intro email or tweet to let the influencer know you would like to work with them in the future.

3.    Investigate what works.   You must do your research when in the process of building a relationship.  Ask yourself questions to define your goals and tailor your campaign accordingly.  Do you want to get your content spread? Or do you want to get your target audience to respond to your call-to-action?

4.    Share, share and share your content.  This brings you much leverage over your followers.  How else are you going to make a difference?

Frankly, it’s time we start to evolve our thinking and dive into all that social media can bring.  For your audience to really embrace your company, it’s going to take some time—and serious effort.  A change in marketing is inevitable, as it seems there is a whirlwind of ways to gain influence.
