Description: The Chaldean American Student Association at Wayne State University hosted a Career Fest and Derek Dickow served as the keynote speaker.

Over a dozen professionals from various careers were in attendance to offer students advice and discuss future opportunities. Some of the professions represented were law, education, theology, nutrition, and pharmacy.

Derek gave an engaging and informative talk about how he chose his career path and what drove his success and failures. He encouraged the audience to focus on “why” they are choosing their particular major, why they are interested in a specific career, and challenged them to write their goals on paper. He also provided his five best practices on networking for meeting with successful leaders in their future industry, and to land an interview for work. The speech lasted about 20 minutes, and students had opportunities to network with the professionals, giving them the chance to immediately put Derek’s advices into practice.

Collin Konja, president of CASA at Wayne State University, found value in Derek’s insights. “I believe Derek did a wonderful job. He was very kind and able to keep the audience engaged and interested in the talk. He nailed all of the points he was asked to cover, and did so in a very professional manner.”

Executive Board Member, Christina Samaan, also said “I believe [Derek] was very punctual and his point came across very clearly. He was interactive with the audience.”

The evening was full of great connections, was well organized by the Executive Board of CASA, and it was an honor to meet such a fantastic group of young, aspiring, and ambitious minds.
